Our Story
Our story begins in the dusty landscape of Black Rock City, Nevada at Burning Man 2019. Nicole had just returned from two years of Peace Corps service in Panama and was attending her first Burn with her close childhood friend, Samantha. Two weeks before, Samantha called Robert and invited him to share in her first Burn. Through the power of community, Robert found a ticket and rode out to the desert with the Pink Lagoonies camp.
As luck and the Universe would have it, Nicole and Samantha ended up camped next to Robert and the Pink Lagoonies, who quickly took them in as their own. Throughout the week, we cultivated a connection that proved to be unshakeable.
Afterwards, Nicole returned to Portland and Robert to Los Angeles, but the connection held even without a clear plan for the future. A year to the week after leaving Burning Man, Robert helped Nicole move to Bellingham, WA to begin graduate school a two-year program that made long distance the only option.
Living apart wasn’t easy, but we put communication and consistency first, prioritizing the relationship through three years of distance.
At the start of 2022, we began looking towards the future and deciding on the trajectory of our lives together. Nicole’s passion for diverse cultures and international travel was pulling at her again, and she eventually asked Robert to move abroad with her after she finished graduate school. Despite his comfortable, stable life in Los Angeles, Robert agreed to take a leap of faith into the unknown.
In February 2023, we departed on a journey through Central and South America also our first time living in the same place together. We dove with sea turtles in Belize, explored ancient ruins across Mexico, climbed an active volcano in Guatemala, danced at Envision festival in Costa Rica, spent a month in Medellin, and hiked through a snowstorm in Patagonia. Our path crossed with so many nomadic friends (you know who you are!) and imbued our relationship with a spirit of adventure and a “home is where you make it” mentality.
The final two stops on our journey were our ancestral lands of Argentina and India. After meeting up with Nicole’s parents in Goa in December 2024, Robert asked Nicole to marry him at sunset on Anjuna Beach. Just a week later, we returned to Los Angeles as a newly engaged couple.
Throughout the six years we’ve been together, we have been each other’s rock through the highs and lows of life – from the passing of loved ones to the ups and downs of health and career changes, we truly believe we can get through anything as long as we have each other.

House Rentals
If you prefer to rent a home in the area, we suggest searching in the neighborhoods of Poblado or Laureles using Airbnb or VRBO.
Poblado is a bustling neighborhood filled with restaurants and nightlife. It is the closest to the venue and we suggest staying here if you’re interested in spending time out with friends and don’t mind a high energy area.
Laureles is a slower, more authentic area with a highly walkable layout close to cafes and restaurants. This is best for families or those who wish to avoid the noise and tourism of Poblado.

Things to do
Medellín
Weather
The temperature in Medellín ranges to 64 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit. It's important to remember when packing your travel clothes that it rains frequently in Medellín (and Colombia in general). That said, it will often rain for 30 minutes, clear up, and then become a beautiful sunny day again. If you plan to extend your trip by going to the Caribbean coast, it will be much warmer there. Conversely, if you plan to visit other mountainous areas, it's likely to be cooler there.
Suggested Activities
Day trip or overnight to Guatape
Located 2 hours from Medellin by bus, this cute mountain town is known for its colorful houses, artisanal shops, and the Piedra de Pinon, a giant rock with hundreds of steps carved into it. At the top you’ll see sweeping views of the surrounding lake.
Comuna 13
Once one of the world’s most dangerous neighborhoods, this area of Medellin has been transformed through hip hop, graffiti art, and community-led urban revitalization. We highly suggest booking a tour for this experience to hear about the background and culture.
Museums
-Museo de Antioquia – Colombian art museum
-Medellin Planetarium
-Botanical Gardens – located next to the Planetarium
-Museo Casa de la Memoria – Dedicated to the victims of Colombia’s history with armed conflict
-Museo Fundacion Aburra – indigenous history of the area
Take a Cable Car Ride
There are many cable cars in Medellin and each provides something different. Here are a couple routes that we suggest:
1. Line J near Comuna 13. This begins at the San Javier metro station and provides panoramic views of the city. No need to get off at the top, continue the loop and head back towards Comuna 13.
2.Line K from Acevedo Metro Station to the neighborhood of Santo Domingo. From here you can either explore the neighborhood or continue onto Line L to Parque Arvi, an ecological reserve. There is a small market at the top with local artisans and some walking trails nearby.
